• Question: Is your job what you expected it would be?  If different, then how is it different? And how did you adapt to it?

      this is a hard question as i had no expections of what i would be doing as a civil engineer. i was pretty much in the dark about what they did. i fell into engineering by accidnet but i have never looked back. i think so that in the future people are not let down by their expectations of certain fields there needs to be more information even promotion of what civil engineering is and what we do. there are far too many people who dont have a clue.

      My role has changed a lot,
      I found I have a tallent for certain things, and I am now the “go-to” guy for that sort of work. Which developed into another “branch” off my main job description.
      I’ve also “added” things to my role, that are not really work, ( like STEMnet activities ) but are work… eg by doing open evenings to raise the awareness of our apprenticeship / or, promote STFC as a whole.

      Before I started my apprenticeship I had a good idea of what to expect.

      I started my first year of college and that seemed great but sometimes I found it quite unpleasant and wanted to finish it as soon as I could.

      However, as soon as I started on site it started to get better every day

      I think it is quite different than what I expected at the start. But your expectations change with the role and I am in the exact role that I wanted to be in when I started the apprenticeship so I’m very pleased with that. Different opportunities arise and you just have to grab them with both hands! 🙂
