personally I haven’t although I work with guys who do and there’s a real possibility that I could be involved in a project like that in the future. I have used ‘Remote Handling Arms’ though which are awesome. They are completely mechanical with no electrical or electronic parts. In ISIS, a neutron source we have on site, there are some extremely radioactive areas. we have kit in these areas that we need to work on and so we have some things that look like giant arms with bike handles and brakes on the end. they lift, rotate twist and pull in and out. The brake operates a claw like gripper on the inside of the radioactive area. most of the time when you are using the arms you can’t see directly and so there are cameras inside and screens outside. this might mean though that when you move the arm left it comes toward you on the screen. its a great brain work out and ridiculously fun to work on.
